I am a “thirty something” scientist with interests in a broad range of areas. My
interests primarily lie in the three main areas: family, science, and sports.
Family: Brian (husband), Ivan (dog), Clancy (cat1), Holiday (cat2) and Scully (cat3)
are my most intimate family circle causing the two bedroom condo to be a little
“tight” but it sure makes for a warm bed on those below zero winter mornings. My
parents, my brothers and their wives, and my soon to be 5! Nieces and nephews all
reside in Jersey so we still make frequent trips to the garden state. I wish I could
see more of all of them but the six hour drive is tough for weekend trips. My inherited
family (Bri’s side) are all Conn folks so it keeps us on the road a fair amount…but
we love you all anyway!
Science: When I look back at my childhood sometimes I am completely surprised that
I ended up a scientist, but other times, it feels like it was my born profession.
I have always loved problem solving of all different shapes and sizes and I never
get overly discouraged when nothing works…a born researcher! I am currently working
on the model plant organism Arabidopsis thaliana and I am studying the genes and
proteins that are important for pattern formation of the different floral organs
of the flower. Before joining the graduate program at Dartmouth I worked for six
years as a research scientist at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and than the
University of Pennsylvania Medical School. In the city if brotherly love is where
I fell in love with both Brian and Science and I decided to move to New England
to attend graduate school.
Sports: A life long obsession since I was about two years old. I blame it mostly
on my father! He is where I got my relentless competitiveness from and my complete
obsession with football. Some of my earliest memories are sitting in the family
room with my father watching the New York Football Giants on Sunday afternoon. I
did, however, jump ships from being a Mets to a Yankees fan in college because I
just kept dating men that were Yankees fans...than I married one of the biggest
Yanks fans there is. I also love playing sports. Of course, now that consists of
skiing most of the weekends between Dec-Mar, including a yearly trip to Colorado
(hi Bill and Sandy!), and playing softball in the Hanover Recreation Co-ed league
all summer (The Fitzies rock!). We also do some hiking, rock climbing, and kayaking
when we get the chance. Every year Brian wants to buy kayaks and I always manage
to talk him out of it but now I think he is starting to wear off on me. Well, that’s
me! I hope you enjoy our site and please sign the guestbook.
